The Star Spangled Banner. Francis Scott Key wrote his immortal words in a poem titled "Defence of Fort M'Henry[sic]" when he saw Old Glory waving above Fort McHenry after a 25 hour bombardment by the British in 1814. Later his prose would be set to music and eventually become our national anthem. He saw Old Glory flying proudly, resolutely, in the face of certain defeat and remarked "...gave proof through the night that our flag was still there." These colors don't run, folks! They've stood the test of time since our forefathers planned their sedition on the crown.
